    I've been in sales about a year. I'm an eight car a month salesman who desperately wants to be a 30+ salesperson. Today I found out that a "secret shopper" came and I wasn't able to demo drive or even T.O. them. I really need to improve my skills, but where do I begin?? I think that after a year I should know how to handle people, but I don't see myself improving. Can someone provide me some advice?? I don't want to give up, but if I don't improve, I'll probably be out of a job anyway. E-mail me if you have any suggestions.

    Well there are lots of things.....
    First, RELAX. If you are so uptight that the customer can feel your commission breath you won't get anywhere with them. Remember, before you met the prospective client they hadn't bought a car and you hadn't sold one, therefore, it can only improve, right?
    Second, make it a habit to study and PRACTICE your craft. Dedicate time daily to improving your skills, through role playing, practicing, drilling and rehearsing.
    Embrace every single opportunity with incredible enthusiasm, so that it transfers to your prospect, if you can't get excited about them getting soemthing from you, how can they?
    What greeting are you using? Is it generating good luck or bad luck with the client? Are you causing a just looking or I don't have any time with your greeting?
    Each step of the sales process is the most important, you can't proceed unless you succeed, so pull out every stop you have to stop them. A lot of time this requires putting your ego aside, and it can be tough, but the reward is great.
