Oh boy is that a big issue! I NEVER want to give my customers a chance to give me a figure first! I hate having to work from the bottom up.
Here's how I avoid it. I want to let them know that I'm easy to work with and more than willing to work out prices with them. So I say this, "Not only will we talk about best price, but also lowest interest rates, smallest monthly payments, the most for your trade in if you have one, and everything else. I'm confident you'll be happy with all the numbers." Then I ask them a question like, "Did you want all the power stuff, you know that'll influence the price?"
