The last time this happened to me, I first thanked them for giving us another chance to be their car company.
Then I asked them, "Just for my clarification, what was it that we did or didn't do that disappointed you?"
After they vented their complaint (one that was not fixable, too much time had passed) I assured them that I wouldn't allow that to happen to them again. That this time we're going to go slow, take our time, and make sure that everything is perfect BEFORE they decide to buy.
They loved my approach and it never came up again! And yes, they did buy another one from us that day.
