    Subject: More Questions
    Message:
Hi! I have enjoyed reading this forum and I have really appreciated the responses that I've received.
I have a few more questions about auto sales:
    1. The dress code - is it always a suit, are some dealers more casual? Is it okay to always wear a suit & tie?
    2. Probation period - is there a time that you make money for a few months before you go strictly to commission sales?
    3. Pay Plans - in earlier posts there were discussions about pay plans; the problem is that I don't really understand them. Would anyone care to explain their pay plan so that I can learn exactly how they work?
    4. Does an automotive sales consultant have his own office? What is the normal practice?
    5. On the subject of teamwork in a dealership or "store": do the sales consultants get along or is it too competitive? I am a firm believer in teamwork and making friends where you work, so honest answers will be appreciated very much.
    6. Personal emergency funds: The fall must be the best time of year to sell cars, what is the worst? How erratic can commission sales be? What would you reccommend a new sales recruit to have in savings all of the time?
Thank you all very much. If you would like to ask me any questions or have any further advice, please do not hesitate to email me personally.
Take care, Gordon Miller ( Ontario, Canada )

Subject: Getting back into the business
    Message:
    Hi,
I've been out of the Auto sales business for about 8 years. Sold cars for 3 years, got promoted to Fleet manager, and then to F&I. I always missed the fun, and excitement of selling cars. So, I want to come back into the industry. My question is what is the best approach? I've been running my own business, and handled the sales. With that being said I know my auto sales skills are very rusty. Should I insist on getting training? Or just jump out on the lot? Any help would be helpful.
    Thank you, Keith

Subject: Questions from a new recruit
    Message:
My name is Gordon. I am going to change careers to become an automotive sales consultant this summer. I am 35 years old, married, and am currently employed in a pulp mill, where I have been for the last 14 years. For the last 4 years, I have been teaching communication skills to our employees! I have a very strong inner desire to become a salesman! For the last 4 months, I have been researching the automotive industry, sales training programs, reading sales training books, and have come up with an action plan to secure employment in Western Canada. I have surveyed a few salesman locally for information about the career. I know that I am going to do well: the question is, how well? Realistically, what can a new recruit salesman earn with my enthusiasim in his first year? Also, any pointers on getting hired would be appreciated. I plan to sell myself for the long-term. The more I reasearch, study and learn about the automotive sales world; the more things are hitting me on the head, saying,"Yes, this is definitely for you Gord!" Thanks for listening! Gordon
